Xbox 360 3 Red Light Fix

I think the worst thing that has happened on my birthday so far was my brand new Xbox 360 showing me the 3 red lights error.The worst thing that has ever happened on my birthday was me getting an Xbox 360 Elite and after hooking it up discovering that it had the 3 red lights error. The great news for me was that there are many places online that teach you how to fix your Xbox so you don't need to wait weeks while Microsoft fixes it Since I'm a bit of a DIY guy and I really didn't feel like waiting for Microsoft to send me a new one I decided to fix my Xbox myself.

The total time required to fix your Xbox will be under 1 hour. The tools needed are simply a screwdriver and a paper clip. To start out with you need to take the case off your Xbox. The next thing to do is remove the steel plate that protects the motherboard. The next step is to unscrew the DVD drive and remove it. Lastly, we need to remove the fan covers and the fans which are located in the back of the Xbox.

Once you have your Xbox stripped down you can fix the problem. The reason you're getting that error is because the console is overheating and it's automatically shutting down the GPU. There are several reasons that this happens, but all you need to know is it's cause is because Microsoft cheaped out on the design. Instead of having a chip maker design the chip they designed it themselves and it produces way more heat than it should.

Anyways, you need to take the heatsink off the chips and clean both the chip and the heatsink. Than, with some thermal paste put a dab onto both the CPU and the GPU. Now, all you need to do is reattach the heatsink and you're done.

There are several guides that you can find on the internet which explain in great detail how to fix your broken Xbox. Many of them now have videos so even somebody with no DIY skills could do it.
