Directory structure corruption in NTFS

By: data recover

NTFS and FAT are the two main file systems in Windows Operating System. FAT (File Allocation Table) is the oldest one; while NTFS (New Technology File System) follows it. If we go a bit technical and consider structural and external approach, we come to know that NTFS file system employs same methods to organize the files as FAT. This approach is known as the ‘directory’ or ‘hierarchical tree model’.

The base of directory structure is the home or root directory, which is a major system metadata file of NTFS file system. The main purpose of directory structure is to provide quick and easy accessing of your valuable files from the Windows hard drive. However, there are some instances when NTFS directory structure gets damaged and you have to bear the loss of Windows data afterwards. But with professional FAT and NTFS data Recovery Software, you are able to retrieve lost hard drive partitions easily.

What happens is several files are created and deleted repeatedly from NTFS file system directory, which leads to permanent damage to the directory. And if you further attempt to access the files in directory or to delete or create files in same directory, you get a pop-up window that indicates NTFS directory corruption. It also instructs you to run the CHKDSK utility to fix the problem.

After this error message by MS Windows, all your hard drive partitions become inaccessible. In order to gain access of Windows partitions again, you need to find out the cause of this problem and fix it through Windows data recovery software.

Cause of this problem

This problem generally occurs if multiple attributes are associated with the given file and they have similar attribute instance tag value. This issue only occurs with the directories in which several files are created and deleted repeatedly in an ‘imbalanced’ way.

Resolution to this problem

In order to sort out this behavior, first of all run CHKDSK / f utility. By running this tool, all files stored in the NTFS directory are recovered (if everything goes well). The CHKDSK utility is also able to detect if the instance counts are particularly large. It pro-actively renumbers the attribute instance values.

Though, CHKDSK works in several cases of hard drive problems, but it is not capable enough to handle the severe file system directory corruption. In such situations, FAT and NTFS data recovery software proves to be elixir and help you to get lost hard drive partitions back.

Eminently designed Recovery Software is capable of thoroughly scanning the damaged Windows hard drive and retrieves all lost partitions from it. Recovery software is embedded with easy to use, simple graphical user interface that even a novice person can perform the recovery easily without any assistance. So NTFS directory corruption issue gets resolved easily.
